My Album Reviews

Why Should You Care About My Opinion:

Uhhh, you shouldn't.

I literally know nothing about how music works, how its made, the industry, etc. etc.

I just really love listening to music. I have a basic pop background (so see my music page to look at my biases).

Idc if anyone reads anything on this page. This is just an activity for me to think more critically about the music I consume, and to provide myself a log that I can look back on later.

How Did I Get Here? - By Louis Tomlinson

Summary
  • 3 Stars
  • An album that I will probably go back to again
  • A few filler songs that I couldn't connect with
  • I think the singles are the best songs
  • This is Louis's best album because he has let in more pop influence

I really loved all of the singles from this album: Lemonade, Palaces, and Imposter. Initially, I wasn't that much of a fan of Palaces, as I thought it was a bit boring, but I warmed up to it so much that by the time that the album came out, I believe that it is the best track. I truly think that the singles prior to the album release were the best tracks. Other than the singles, I enjoyed Sunflowers, Broken Bones, and Lucid. Some tracks hit a nerve for me, especially with the "la la la la la's" in Lazy. As a childhood fan of the Lorax movie, it gave me flashbacks.

Sunflowers had a great peaceful vibe that I really wanted from this album, and Lucid hit the mark with the part when Louis sings 'How did I get here?', as it felt really existential and reflective.

There were downfalls of this album though, like multiple filler tracks that I just didn't really connect with. On Fire is definitely my least favourite track at the moment. It felt like the songwriting took a dip and kind of dampened the hookiness of Lemonade. However this album is definitely my favourite work from Louis - it has a lot of pop influence unlike his other albums, and it really benefitted him this time around. If there was going to be a breakout hit, it would be Imposter. Currently it seems unlikely that any songs will have a viral hit though.

Overall, it kinda fell short of my expectations (although my expectations were probably too high), but it's still a piece of work that I would come back to again soon.
